I am so excited our show has started back up!
The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 1 is titled First Time Again.
It has some of the same problems that I always have with the show.
It's like these characters who have been with Rick forgot what they have all been through. I mean, save for Carol and Daryl. Maybe that's the point. They have been with him since the very beginning. Plus, I mean, Daryl shared that trough experience with Rick at Terminal as well as when Daryl's make-shift gang tried to gang rape Carl and Michonne. Carol also has been there through it all. I don't mind that Daryl raises his opinion about bringing people in. I agree, but eventually. What Alexandria needs to do first is get the people they do have under control and prepared before bringing anyone else in.
The person I really don't get is Michonne. Is she so hell bent on getting Rick some of his humanity back that she fails to see that his is very human? He cares, but he is realistic. The other thing is, while Michonne and Morgan search to try and recapture/keep their humanity, they may very well being doing it for people that can't accept it. Rick is beyond correct. The people in Alexandria have been so sheltered they are light-years behind the rest of the world. I guess the show is alluding to how Morgan found Rick. If Morgan hadn't taken a chance on Rick, Rick would be dead. So does the same hold true for the people of Alexandria? Does Rick owe them the same favor Morgan afforded him? Or is it too far into the apocalypse for that?

I think the biggest difference is that Rick pretty readily accepted his surroundings and was ready to fight. Now, while Shane was so much further ahead of Rick, Rick was still light-years ahead of the people of Alexandria. Rick was thrust into the zombie world. The people of Alexandria have the false sense that since nothing bad has happened to them yet, nothing will.
Also, how much would Rick hope for Shane in this moment?
Which is where Carter comes in, but I'll get to him in a moment.
Let's finish off with the first train of thought. There are some people from Alexandria that get it. Heath, Deanna, and big tall dude who I don't know his name. There are people that get it. These people may have survived outside the walls.

Carter, he's another story.
Carter basically thinks that if he just ignores everything, it will go away. Rick specifically tries to warn against this during the meeting in the living room. It won't go away. This is the world. Rick is absolutely relieved he knows why the community survived. It wasn't because of anything the residents did, it was because of the quarry.
An aside, this is why the Scooby gang needs to pay more attention to Rick. They so badly want a community that they are willing to overlook the red flags. He does not want to lose one of his own to support people who just would not have survived to this point on stupidity. It is at this point in the apocalypse that people have been weeded out.
I love the scene between Rick and Morgan on the porch. Rick is absolutely right. Carter will die anyway. The thing that the Scooby gang are shamefully overlooking is will his inevitable death bring one of them down with him? Rick doesn't want that, and is making the hard, callous decisions. Carter would have shot Eugene. End of story. Carter, to continue the unsustainable, would kill an innocent man. Rick, even in the beginning, would never have done that.
This brings me to Michonne and Morgan looking on at Carter and the fact Rick had to kill him.
That kind of irritates me.
I needed more dialogue from Morgan and Michonne to show they are not f'ing idiots.
What was Rick to do? He's already dead. He was bitten. He's going to turn. He won't shut up. You can't amputate a face. He was alerting the heard and going to change the plan. It needed to be done.
Rick having the balls to tell Morgan what to do next and not letting him sulk was a thing of beauty. My only thing I can compare this to is being a nurse in an emergency situation. There are always those that stand around, stunned. Their inability to move/think/act wastes precious time for the patient. I think of this as the same situation. Rick has the ability to compartmentalize. No one should look down on him for that. They should look up to him for that.
I used to hate Rick, because he hemmed and hawed. Not anymore. This is a leader I would follow.
An aside, I guess that's where the interactions with Rick and Daryl get me. I want slightly more dialogue that confirms to me as the viewer that Daryl gets it. That it's more of bringing up a point to Rick, rather than taking a backseat to what needs to be done. Also, why don't these people talk to each other more? This show does a very bad job at showing what the characters actually say to each other. I can't imagine that Daryl, Michonne and Rick at this point wouldn't have a pow-wow.
At the end of the day, I'm through having Rick's motives and character tested. Enough already. The man has proven himself time and time again. It's starting to make the show look stupid.
If we have to spend the season dealing with the repercussions of Rick killing Carter I'm gonna be pissed - mostly because I will keep watching. I like the show. I hate how dumb it is sometimes.
Two more thoughts, not in sequence with my post. Remember Rick tried to take the advice once already when they found a community to tone his demeanor down a bit. Remember farmer Rick? Guess what happened. The governor came in and blew up the prison which lead to Terminus. All he has to do is remind everyone of that and everyone would shut up. It's so simple.
I read somewhere that viewers thought Rick purposefully led Carter into the situation so that he would be killed. That was not the case. Please, please let's not go down that road.
Another reader brought up that maybe Rick is turning into the governor. No. No he is not. If the show goes down that road as well, that would also be so stupid.
I hate rehashing stuff. Let's move forward with these characters. Alexandria would be far cooler if we didn't rehash stuff. Wouldn't it be cooler to see what the Scooby gang would do with the Alexandrians on a united front? At this point, I feel like the group should be cohesive. Wouldn't it be cooler to see how the group dealt with Carter if they were on the same team?
The show is missing the point.
