Another great episode from FTWD. This week Chris sees a flashing light outside the safety zone. It's disturbing because the army said everyone out of the safety zone is dead. First of all, I kind of feel like the people inside the safety zone should be way, way more upset about this. As in EVERYONE? that seems pretty cataclysmic to me.
That's why Chris is so shocked that someone is trying to reach out with the light? How is that possible when everyone is dead?
It's at this point Madison and Travis act like idiots again and dismiss him. Are these just the worst parents on the planet? Even for being the stupidest zombie survivors, it seems pretty bad not to even humor your child. Also, wouldn't you as a human want to know if what he saw was real? I mean, they look at his video, and, what? Just shrug? I'm not really pulling for these two morons anymore.

At least Madison is smart enough to go investigate outside of the gate, curious enough about what is going on out there due to Chris.
What she finds, surprises her. She states some who have been shot are not sick. At first, I took this as Madison not realizing everyone is infected, and once they die, they turn. However, the show is really eluding to the army just shooting people they view as a threat. This threat, may or may not be real, and the army is therefore not solely protecting its citizens.

I also love this subplot of the army. How stupid is Travis? I love this imagery. What Travis is too stupid to realize, is he is the one behind the gate. The army, is on the outside, they are the ones in control. This is not a democracy.
Which is something the Salazars realize. They know that power corrupts, and fear can destroy this power balance further.
It's only when Nick is taken that Madison and Travis begin to wake up. From a medical standpoint, if the medical army knows that people turn when they die regardless of being bit, then taking Travis is a smart move. If he overdoses and dies, he could infect others before people catch on. I am very curious about this subplot. I really want to know what happens in the medical unit next week. Does this doctor know what is going on?
It will tell us a lot about what the government does and does not know based on what goes on in these medical units. I'm assuming they must. The early scenes in the hospital shows that the medical personnel were realizing that people turned when they died. The only caveat to all of this is that in TWD, it took a whole season for Rick's group to realize that when you die you turn. It does seem fairly obvious now that this would be common knowledge.
As a nurse myself, I'm really, really excited to see what happens next week. The teasers show that we will follow this doctor and Liza into a med unit. Not only am I curious as a fan, but a medically-trained fan.
Onto next week!
