This episode, while not flashy like a lot of them, had a lot happen. We sometimes need episodes to set up the rest and this was one of those necessary cases.
First off, I liked that we got right to the meat of Jesus. There wasn't a lot of cloak and dagger over what his situation was. We see that he is part of the Hilltop Colony and that it seems very, um, plantation-esque. The leader, Gregory, is all too happy that this apocalypse leads him to be owner of the colonial house. The fact that he is simply being managed by Jesus, the real leader of the colony, makes a lot of sense. Giving Gregory the impression that he runs things keeps him in line, but Jesus is clearly the one who is tugging at the strings.
Also, I love the interplay over sending Maggie to talk to Gregory as the leader because Rick has learned he has no patience for diplomacy with idiots. Maggie and Rick will get to the same conclusion and end result, but Maggie will do it with more finesse. Also, I'm not the only one who noticed that Rick keeps winding up with a shit ton of blood on him during these first encounters with people. It's almost like he doesn't feel comfortable unless he's bit off an ear, executed someone, or stabbed someone in the neck. Plus, how much do we love how Michonne stepped up to protect her man!! Love, love, love!
It's also interesting to note that Hilltop colony has food as their commodity and Alexandria has mercenaries as their commodity.

The scenes with Glenn and Maggie showing off the baby pic speaks to a larger theme of the show that what the Scooby gang is really fighting for is a better tomorrow. Their souls and their humanity that they continue wrestling to keep is highlighted by the sonogram. That's physical proof of what they are all really deep down fighting for. Glenn and his at-all-costs desire to not kill a human, Maggie's leadership -- it is all represented in that ultimate hope of a baby, of a return to some type of normal society. Besides, everyone in the group has lost so much, many of them kids of their own, it says a lot about the group that they are striving to gain some of that back.
Lastly we have Abraham. It just goes to show you that in a world of zombies, guys are still guys. Never satisfied by what they have. Or, maybe it's more of a nod to the fact that Abraham is ready for choice. He doesn't have to settle because he never knows when he is going to die. He can actually hope to have the real deal. However, perhaps the show shouldn't have done such a good job of painting Rosita as the perfect apocalyptic girlfriend, well, second only to Michonne.
Until next time!
