Oh, my God, is this show bad.
FX has a serious problem on their hands.
If they want to save their brand, they need to wrap this show up either next season or the season after that. FIVE seasons is way, way too much.
Nothing happens! Nothing!
Let's start with Gus. He finally gets the family (he just met and fell in love with in a few days) out of the city. Honestly, if this were a real show, it would have been a 2 - 3 minute mesh in with the last time Gus was on screen. BECAUSE THAT'S ALL IT TAKES!
However, I did like watching Gus kiss the girl.
Someone explain to me how the old man got out of the duct tape with or without vamp blood like he was in an episode of True Blood.
Now, onto Dutch.
Should I be surprised? I just watched the first episode of The Bastard Executioner. They showed an image of a murdered fetus. So completely unnecessary.
I felt like this was the same.
Did we really need to see the Nazi on the ground with Dutch spreading her legs.
Just stop it already.
Also, the flashbacks to the Nazi's past was, while mildly interesting as it was a break from the mundane, it did not tell me more about him. All it did was reveal a cliche. That he was a morally weak individual who rose to fame in the Nazi party simply because he didn't have anything better to do with his life and that he was willing to murder people to feel better than others.
The writing in the show is so bad that I didn't know if they were trying to make the audience feel like he was creepier and more hateful or if they were trying to say he had a softer side because he felt remorse for what he did to his young love interest. That's bad. I should know which way they want me to feel. And, before you say that they were trying to do both, let us not give the show any more credit than they could possibly deserve.
What I did like was Fet rescuing Dutch. I know, yadda, yadda, yadda, women needs recusing by a man ... sound the feminist alarm!
I'm a woman and I didn't take offense. I'm also fairly feminist, so take that haters. We all need rescuing from time to time. Plus, I'd take anyone busting through a door, man or woman, to save me from an evil Nazi vampire.
Anyway, I liked the scenes, regardless of all the many plot holes. Fet coming for the woman he loves was portrayed very well by the actor. He had urgency, and determination, and that he'd stop at nothing demeanor. Well done. A bit of real acting in all the terribleness of the show.
He is still the best part of the show.
What I really, really liked about the scene was actually Nora and Eph. It cracked me up to have Nora give Eph that look in the car while Dutch was crying in the back. I have to admit, I'm unclear if Nora and Eph were looking at each other like, shit just got real, or how I took it. Again, bad writing all around.
I personally took it as Nora looking at Eph for the loser guy he is. Eph would never do that for Nora, and that was the look of disdain she was giving him. Eph looked back her and did essentially a shrug with his eyes -- like, yeah, no, I wouldn't do that for you. In fact, Nora, I cheat on you every chance I get.
Well, at least I'm glad Nora got a chance to scoff at Eph, like the rest of us in the audience (who are still watching) do.
Better get on the ball, FX. You gambled that you could stretch this show out to 5 seasons and no one would notice. Well, we did. Better improve it next season.
Until then.
