I could not get over how deliciously tense the dinner scene was. Every word was loaded. Pastor Tim could hiss out with his snake tongue a devastating sermon. Alice was a ticking time bomb. Any misstep could bring down the Jennings house of cards.
So yummy.
But this scene lends itself well to the overall forwarding of the plot. There are a lot of pots boiling for the Jennings. So many lies, so many webs of deceit. It was just happenstance that Stan dropped by, thus it beautifully proves just how precarious the Jennings situation really is. So many dangers lie in wait.

Speaking about a fragile balance ... Paige. She really is a loose canon. Honestly, that girl could break at any moment. She seems to have the most delicate constitution. Everything freaks her out. In the hierarchy of things that Elizabeth and Phillip need to worry about in regards to being KGB, Paige is near the top of the list. It started off as parents wanting to keep their child out of danger and out of the spy world. I really do think their worry has now transitioned to KGB agents trying to figure out how to contain her.
In the real world, I'd be in awe of my mom for doing that. Elizabeth saved both their lives. She tried to give the muggers an out, but they didn't take it. I get that the show needs to insert drama, so Paige will probably be hysterical, but I'm 98% certain that would not be a real life response. I will wait to see what the writers do, but I'm not hopeful.
I really did think that Young was gonna pop up around the corner. It just made sense to me with so much emphasis on overlapping plot threads.

As for the Young plot, we finally got to the conclusion of this long con by the KGB. It feels so tragic that this was the endgame. Elizabeth has to fake Patti's death to get the KGB into Don's office. Poor Don will forever blame himself for the supposed death. The KGB has shattered the lives of this family Elizabeth truly found herself caring for. Even more heart-wrenching is Young desperately reaching out to Patti, the person who actually caused all of this trauma in her life.
Of note, this ties into our thoughts and themes from the last few episodes -- the ineptitude of the KGB. All this personal devastation may have been for naught. The KGB didn't even get the access code. It brings up the same questions of is it all worth it? Does the KGB know what they are doing? Does the KGB really have a game plan after all?
Equally interesting is the tie in with Pastor Tim. Elizabeth is clearly struggling with what has been done, and despite not believing in God, she looks to Pastor Tim for solace. He even gives her an olive branch -- she doesn't have to believe in God, she just simply has to treat other people well. Unfortunately, there is no redemption for Elizabeth in this -- Elizabeth, needless to say, does not treat people very well.
