A most enjoyable show is back on, Sleepy Hollow, in it's new time slot on Friday at 800pm.
The show picked up right where it left off for the most part. It's a month after Abbie went into the tree with the glowy stone to save Icky, sis, and boy-toy.
Icky is sad without his Abbie and somehow after 3 seasons has not had the occasion to ever microwave something. I thought that little nugget of dark humor was a bit of a stretch, but I'm willing to let it go while I imagine myself swooping in to save Icky from his dilemma, only to be rewarded with a star-spangled kiss.
Since Abbie is somewhere unknown, we get more time with the unimpressive Sophie. She is no Abbie replacement and I differ in the opinion of other Sleepy Hollow fans that Icky has chemistry with her. Personally, I'd like to see more of the mousey American Revolution enthusiast than her. Perhaps bring her into the fold as opposed to so-so Sophie.
The monster was creepy with a not too shabby The Ring look. Disappointingly, I felt like Icky just randomly knew everything about this Japanese demon all too quickly. There was no nuance, no thrill, no humor or quick-witted barbs. Meh is all I really got from it all.
Plus, so-so Sophie just seemed to all too easily jump on the I Believe Train. I'm all for observing something and believing it, but it just seemed like the writing was a bit poor.

I was thrilled to know that Abbie was still alive at the end. I could not have beared "witnessing" a long, drawn out is she or isn't she alive? I also could not bear having so-so Sophie be the new Abbie if Beharie decided to jump off this unfortunately sinking ship.
Hopefully, next week Icky will be shirtless and there will be a return to the humor that the great Tom Mison brings to the role in conjunction with Nicole Beharie.
Overall, I did not love this episode. I did not think it fitting of a mid-season premier. Sadly, this does not give me hope that there will be a fourth season, despite how much I do hope that there is one.
Until next time!
