This episode of FTWD was titled Cobalt.
Again, while I enjoyed the episode, the writing is still completely unbelievable.
First off, let's start with the absolutely ridiculous stuff. Chris is supposed to be attracted to his step-sister Alicia? Could it be any more cliched? That was such a waste of time.
Travis seems pretty calm for someone who's step-son was just carted off by the military in the middle of the night. This also goes for Alicia. That's her brother. She decides to play dress up? I know they have a complicated history, but this does not portray that. Remember the scene where she is the only person who can check on him in the bathroom? That showed real love and real concern. Now, we are supposed to believe she's like, oh well. Too bad.
Also, I get that the two kids trash the wealthy people's house because money doesn't matter anymore, but it was more a vehicle to tell that cliche than it was an actual good, honest scene. It seemed way to in your face to show as an example of the worthlessness of money in a zombie apocalypse.

rLet's go back to Travis. He is so oblivious. The only thing he does remotely right is not instigate the captain when he asked after his ex-wife and Nick. He somehow manages to get a ride along, sees just how devastating the destruction is, but when he sees a zombie, he can't kill her? Nope. Not buying it.
Now, on the other hand, we have the exact opposite from Madison. I know, I like Kim Dickens, but we are several episodes in and her acting in this show has not improved. She's lost me as a fan (in this show, not in future shows, maybe not even in this show, but for now, no more slack). You can not tell by her acting what this character is feeling. Is she cold-hearted? Is she indifferent? Is she calculating? Is she aware of what is going on? Right now, she just seems equally as naive and oblivious as Travis.
Which is why it is weird when Daniel starts torturing the young soldier she simply says, did you find out what we needed to know? Ehhh ... hold on. You try to stop it, a bit, and completely unconvincingly, then now you are just matter of fact? I'm hating her acting and the writing. The writing is not giving her much. We don't see any turmoil. We don't see any evaluation. We don't see anything. Just dumb.
Now onto all the zombies in the stadium.
Okay, I get it. The soldiers panic, things get out of hand, and they chain the doors -- closing inside zombies and healthy people. Desperate times = desperate measures.
There is no way, with all of those zombies now in there, the army does not detonate that area. Or burn it for that matter. Clearly, everyone accepts now that there are people sick with a disease that causes people to reanimate after death -- you don't have to call them zombies. I can not let it go that there is not the opportunity to exterminate those in there. I don't care which agency does it - FEMA, CDC, Army, Air Force ... for Pete's sake - the fire department. I can not suspend belief on this one.
You can not tell me that Daniel would open, or anyone, would open those stadium doors. If a city is already, in 9 or so days, overrun with zombies, then, yes, releasing 2000 or more zombies would in fact cause a full-fledged zombie apocalypse.
I totally shake my head.
Thanks, Daniel.
Now we know who to blame on the west coast.
I'm also confused about Cobalt. I get that the medical barracks are in the heart of the city. I get that perhaps with things out of control, the army would evacuate. I kinda get that they might not be able to tell the healthy from the sick, so they humanely kill all of the people in the cages before they evacuate. Also, kill them to make sure they, too, do not reanimate once the infected get to the healthy ones.
What I'm confused about is the community Travis and Madison are in. Are you telling me they are going to kill all those people as well? That does not makes sense. At all. Not even close. Perhaps, what the show is saying, is there is only a matter of time before Cobalt goes into effect and they can rescue Nick and Daniel's wife? Again, poor writing.
Onto next week.
Perhaps next week Travis can get some balls, Madison can get an affect, and Chris can learn to masturbate instead of coveting his step-sister.
