These are my thoughts on FTWD Episode 1 Monster.
What a wasted opportunity by the show. We already missed out on what could have been a really cool season one. I've already commented on this, how I would have liked to have seen the apocalypse unfold a little bit more. Again, I felt like it was such a wasted opportunity and one that fans had really wanted.
Season 2 episode 1 was another failure. It would have been really great to see the characters have to abandon the house. How did the characters interact knowing yet another safe haven was taken over? Not all characters have had to deal directly with walkers. How did they do with their first kill? Did parental issues get in the way? Was Nick the only one who really understood they had to be killed? Who took charge? Was Travis still squeamish about killing a walker?

What about all of the walkers on the beach? How did they all get there? This was one of the first few times The Rugrats (my name for this clan) have been cornered outside of the military barracks. What did they think? What was their understanding of the scope of the outbreak?
I ask these questions because it was such a loss for the viewer to understand the characters more. I really feel like it would impact The Rugrats on Abigail. It could have certainly changed all of their opinions and reactions to other survivors.

For example, why don't they trust Strand? I'm not saying they should, but I'm just saying the level in which these survivors don't want to follow his leadership is interesting to me. What has he actually done to them? He gave them his house, his boat. He even waited for Madison, Travis, and Chris to get on the yacht before pulling away. Perhaps something on the beach? Yet, they are so willing to trust the man on the other end of the radio? Those on the raft?
Also, I know she is a teenager, but why is Alicia talking to that guy on the radio? Why is Madison allowing that to happen? (It's also not like the boat is so huge she shouldn't be able to keep track of her daughter.) A zombie disease just broke out and leveled your city. I'd be like, let's worry about us for awhile, okay sweetie? Until we know exactly what is going on. It's so dumb. Alicia would not act like that. They saw the riot. They saw the military abandoned them. Hell, Alicia is the only one who heard the coast guard say they can't help -- everyone for themselves. Idiot girl.

Then there is Nick. He usually understands things, like it's no big deal to shred the walker with the propeller -- cause it is already dead. However, he then goes into the capsized boat? With the bullet holes? With Walkers swimming around him? How dumb. How very, very dumb. Also, a log book? Stop it. What a contrived plot device.
So essentially we are caught up with The Walking Dead. There is no difference in the two shows now. I mean, really. The only lesson to learn is who to trust and who not to. However, much like TWD, this plot thread will go on for six seasons and the lesson never truly learned.
I'll still watch, but FTWD really missed out on a golden opportunity to set itself apart from TWD. Boo.
On a side note, can we all agree that The Rugrats made the zombie apocalypse worse by releasing all of those walkers?
On a double side note, did anyone watch Talking Dead? Did you see the show runner Dave Erickson? Could he possibly look anymore unenthused to talk about the show? The show he is in charge of. Dude. Smile. You've made it, okay? You look like a colossal asshole.
Until next time!
