I can't believe this is the second to last episode of the season! When they announced it my head basically exploded. I love to take my time with this show. I always want to be in the exact right mood to watch it because I love it so. I want to be alert and in the right head space to appreciate all the nuance of this excellent series.
To note, Vince Gilligan will direct and write the season 2 finale. I'm already getting chills!

I derived so much pleasure from watching Chuck get humiliated. That man deserves to be taken down a notch. His display of self-importance at having to be in the courtroom only made the end result that much sweeter.
Chuck is a walking, talking clinical definition of narcissistic personality disorder. Here is the definition pulled directly from Psychology Today (thanks guys!):
In narcissistic PD, the person has an extreme feeling of self-importance, a sense of entitlement, and a need to be admired. He is envious of others and expects them to be the same of him. He lacks empathy and readily exploits others to achieve his aims. To others, he may seem self-absorbed, controlling, intolerant, selfish, or insensitive. If he feels obstructed or ridiculed, he can fly into a fit of destructive anger and revenge. Such a reaction is sometimes called ‘narcissistic rage’, and can have disastrous consequences for all those involved.
I abhorred/loved when Chuck turned to his clients and so self-righteously stated that it was them who were wrong. He is so unbelievably full of himself. And the way he said it, such vitriol.
Later, this comes into play when Chuck is admonishing Kim against Jimmy. Chuck is so lying when he says he cares about the clients to Kim. He doesn't. He cares about being right. He cares about being the best. Chuck gives zero fucks about his clients.

How about that Kim, though! Girl! I loved it when you stuck up for your man!
Also, she is so right. It is sad how both brothers are destroying each other and themselves. Chuck should just wash his hands of Jimmy, but he can't -- it's almost like Chuck feeds off of belittling his brother. Then there is Jimmy, oh, Jimmy. He finally wants to walk away, but Chuck inserted himself into Kim's affairs -- just to get back at him. Jimmy can't let that go.
Kim also stuck up for Jimmy by backing his story. It was wonderful to see her crush Chuck like that.

And she knew. Of course she knew. What absolutely brilliant writing to have her advise Jimmy, but not admit it. She's got his back.
Jimmy McGill! What do you do to drive this woman away????
On a side note, what I find interesting about Kim is, don't you feel a small part of her is letting it slide for herself? She was crushed when Mesa Verde didn't pick her. Is she going to be so quick to hand the client back to Chuck? Nope. I'm fairly certain her intentions aren't 100% moral.

Remember the definition of narcissistic personality disorder? Well, Chuck exemplifies it again perfectly with his narcissistic rage hissy-fit leveled against Jimmy, the copy place, and, well, himself. He just can't stand that Jimmy might have won. Chuck is completely out of control, and it is going to cost him.
I actually don't feel bad for him. He brought this all on himself. His pettiness, he anger, his self-importance, but most of all, his complete disregard for his brother. Don't kid yourself, Chuck. This isn't because of what Jimmy did to your father. It's good old-fashioned mental illness coupled with a good amount of ego and and an even greater amount of sibling rivalry.
I just feel bad for Jimmy.

What this episode really comes down to is revenge has consequences. It's the theme with Mike as well. He exacts revenge on Hector, only to find out the unintended consequence of a good samaritan being shot.
Baby steps have gotten these characters to where they are. As is the case with Chuck, all these baby steps leads to a fall.

Until next time!
